Been tracking this and the numbers are honestly wild. Tokenized real-world assets just hit $27 billion onchain, up 66% since the start of 2026. What's really catching my attention though isn't just the growth rate—it's where the action is shifting. For years, Ethereum dominated asset tokenization infrastructure, holding about 57% of all tokenized RWA activity. But that's changing fast. Bitcoin Layer 2 networks are becoming serious contenders for settlement and custody of real-world backed assets. Stacks' sBTC alone crossed $292 million in TVL, giving institutions direct Bitcoin exposure with actual finality. Rootstock is managing $98–160 million in locked assets through regulated vaults. Liquid Network is sitting on $1.4 billion in tokenized RWAs. These aren't niche plays anymore. What's driving this? Institutional demand for yield, plain and simple. Tokenized Treasuries make up $11.3 billion of the total—nearly 45% of all tokenized asset value. Gold and commodities hit $6.5 billion. In just Q1 alone, stocks and Treasuries together jumped 38%. Institutions aren't just sticking to traditional assets either. They're experimenting with soybeans, AI data centers, specialized infrastructure. The range of what can be tokenized keeps expanding. Solv Protocol recently crossed $1 billion TVL through SolvBTC and xSolvBTC, now managed by Apollo Crypto, a major Australian institutional asset manager. They're targeting 4–6% annualized yields on tokenized bonds and private credit running on Bitcoin L2s. VoltFi just launched a gold-backed PAXG vault on Stacks where you can deposit stablecoins and earn yield in both gold and STX rewards. The interesting part is the infrastructure maturity. These Bitcoin-native networks are proving they can handle serious tokenized asset volumes without relying on traditional EVM setups. The pace of TVL growth in Bitcoin Layer 2s has accelerated significantly since 2024. It's not just hype—protocols are shipping compliant, transparent solutions that traditional finance actually wants to use. One major exchange recently projected this market could reach $340 billion, and honestly, watching how fast asset tokenization is evolving across multiple settlement layers, that doesn't seem crazy. The market is maturing rapidly with competition intensifying between Ethereum and these emerging Bitcoin-focused platforms. Fresh capital is flowing in from both traditional finance and crypto natives looking for yield and security. If you're monitoring the institutional crypto space, asset tokenization on Bitcoin L2s is definitely worth watching closely. Gate's been expanding their offerings here too, so there's plenty to explore if you want to track this trend.
