According to Beating, code editor Zed announced its built-in AI Agent now natively integrates with ChatGPT accounts. Users can directly access OpenAI models and Codex capabilities through their personal ChatGPT subscription without incurring API per-use charges.
The move contrasts with competitors: Anthropic will separate Claude Code billing from Claude subscriptions starting June 15, and GitHub Copilot transitions to per-use pricing on June 1. Zed credited OpenAI for maintaining subscription-based access instead.
