Blockchain programs are difficult to modify after deployment, and small errors can cause significant asset losses, requiring higher verification standards than conventional software. Formal verification is particularly critical for zero-knowledge proofs, which rely on mathematically rigorous rules. Third, quantum safety must be addressed proactively. Current cryptographic systems are designed for classical computers, but future quantum computers could compromise the security of assets and data. Buterin emphasized the need to prepare now rather than respond after problems emerge.
