According to Vitalik Buterin's official tweet on July 4, Ethereum is preparing its third major iteration since the 2022 Merge, with a refreshed "Lean Ethereum" roadmap that will replace almost every major protocol component over the next three to four years without forcing existing apps to migrate. The overhaul centers on verifying transactions via recursive STARK proofs, replacing quantum-vulnerable cryptography with quantum-safe alternatives, and elevating privacy to a first-class goal. Buterin also outlined a 2030 network architecture holding approximately 2TB of dynamic state alongside 100 terabytes of a new, more scalable state type suited to tokens and NFTs, potentially reducing fees by over tenfold.
