USD/KRW Rises to 1,501.40 on July 9 Amid U.S.-Iran Military Tensions

NDAQ-2.31%
According to Yonhapinfomax, the USD/KRW exchange rate rose to 1,501.40 on July 9 morning, up 2.90 won from the previous Seoul session close of 1,498.50 won, as escalating U.S.-Iran military tensions following Iran's tanker attack heightened market anxiety. The won briefly recovered to 1,496.80 won, the lowest level since May 29, before reversing losses. U.S. President Donald Trump initially fueled concerns by stating that a ceasefire agreement had ended, but later clarified that any conflict would resolve "very quickly" and that the U.S. does not seek a prolonged war. The yen's strength and foreign investors' stock purchases, driven by anticipation of over $25 billion inflows from SK Hynix's planned Nasdaq ADR listing on July 10, provided downward pressure on USD/KRW.
