U.S. Recent Strikes on Iran Lay Groundwork for Future Military Operations

According to three U.S. officials and military statements on July 16, recent American strikes on Iran are designed to force open the Strait of Hormuz and degrade Iranian military capabilities ahead of more complex future operations. The latest air strikes targeted Iran's air defense systems, coastal radar stations, missile and drone bases, and maritime assets.

U.S. officials described the strikes as "shaping operations" that have weakened Iran's defensive capabilities to enable more intensive military actions. One official stated: "This helps lay the foundation for the necessary work ahead."
