U.S. Military Fires Hellfire Missiles at Oil Tanker Bound for Iran on July 15

According to U.S. Central Command, the U.S. military fired Hellfire missiles at the tanker M/T Belma on July 15 while conducting maritime blockade operations against Iran in the Arabian Gulf. The vessel, flagged by Curacao, ignored multiple warnings and attempted to breach the blockade while sailing in international waters toward Iran's Kharg Island. The missile strike targeted the ship's smokestack, disabling its navigation capability. Within the first 24 hours of resuming the maritime blockade on July 14 at 4 p.m. Eastern Time, the U.S. military redirected two compliant merchant vessels and halted one non-compliant tanker.
