According to Yonhapinfomax, on July 16, South Korea's President Lee Jae-myung ordered the government to strengthen mandatory labeling requirements for AI-generated videos and images, citing widespread misuse risks. The President stated that AI-created content has become difficult to distinguish from real footage, and unlabeled materials could cause serious public deception.
Under the AI Development and Trust Framework Act implemented in January, AI-generated images and videos must be clearly marked with watermarks or other identifiers. Currently, penalty enforcement is suspended for one year to allow industry adaptation, after which violators face fines of up to 30 million won (approximately $23,000 USD).
