South Korea's M2 Money Supply Grows 5.8% Year-over-Year in May, Highest Since February 2023

On July 15, South Korea's central bank announced that the nation's M2 money supply (average balance) increased 5.8% year-over-year and 0.8% month-over-month in May, marking the highest year-over-year growth since February 2023. The M2 balance reached 4,184.4 trillion Korean won, rising 32.2 trillion won from April. The expansion was driven by increased corporate short-term liquidity and expanded demand deposits, which grew 24.3 trillion won. Non-financial enterprises and other financial institutions contributed significantly to the growth.
