South Korea's KOSPI Plummets Over 33% in July, Worst Monthly Decline on Record

According to Korea Exchange, South Korea's KOSPI index fell over 33% in July 2026, marking its worst monthly performance on record and surpassing losses during the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis. The KOSDAQ index also hit new lows, dropping below levels seen during the December 2024 emergency martial law crisis. Trading halts were triggered multiple times across both markets as the steep declines continued.
