South Korea's 2027 Government Bond Issuance May Fall to 170 Trillion Won, down from 201 Trillion Won Estimate

According to KB Securities analyst Im Jae-kyun, South Korea's projected government bond issuance for 2027 could fall to approximately 170 trillion won, down from an earlier estimate of 201.4 trillion won, as expanded tax revenues from the semiconductor boom exceed increased government spending. The government now estimates 2027 expenditures at 800 trillion won-plus and tax revenues at 500 trillion won-plus, announced on July 14 during a national financial strategy meeting chaired by President Lee Jae-myung. The surge in corporate tax collections from semiconductor strength means tax revenues are growing faster than spending, potentially reducing the need for debt issuance.
