According to Yonhapinfomax, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva held a 136-minute state summit on July 27 (local time) in Brasília. The two leaders signed seven cooperation agreements covering space, industrial technology, energy, and cybersecurity. The summit marked a strategic shift in bilateral relations from traditional trade—centered on automobiles and mineral exports—to an economic security partnership, with focus areas including critical mineral supply chains, advanced manufacturing, defense industry cooperation, and clean energy expansion. The talks also renewed momentum for the stalled Korea-Mercosur free trade agreement negotiations, which began in 2018 but faced obstacles over agricultural market opening issues.
