Meta Expands Louisiana Data Center to 5GW With $50B+ Investment, 2GW Target by 2030

Meta announced plans to expand its Hyperion data center project in Richland Parish, Louisiana, to 5 gigawatts of compute capacity with an investment exceeding $50 billion, with 2 gigawatts expected by 2030. The facility will serve as Meta's largest data center, built specifically for artificial intelligence workloads and to support Meta Superintelligence Labs. CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the supercluster will enable "industry-leading levels of compute and by far the greatest compute per researcher."

Louisiana has backed the project with tax incentives, including a 20-year sales tax exemption for data centers built before 2029, signed by Governor Jeff Landry in late 2024. Meta plans to invest more than $1 billion in local infrastructure, including roads, water systems, and wastewater upgrades. The company said local businesses have received over $1.6 billion in contracts since construction began in December 2024, with the site expected to support more than 1,000 jobs once operational.
