Hyundai Workers Begin Strike Over Humanoid Robot Deployment, July 13-15

According to The Wall Street Journal, thousands of unionized Hyundai auto workers began walking off the job in early July after negotiations with the South Korean automaker broke down over plans to deploy humanoid robots. Workers at the Ulsan facility ended their day and night shifts two hours early from July 13-15 and plan to stage four-hour strikes from July 20-22 after 15 rounds of negotiations failed to reach agreement. The union representing over 39,000 South Korean workers is demanding fixed salaries to protect against automation-driven work hour reductions, a higher retirement age, and increased bonuses. Hyundai aims to deploy more than 25,000 Atlas humanoid robots across its manufacturing plants, starting with U.S. factories in 2028.
