During China’s May Day holiday from April 30 to May 6, global equity indices posted gains, with Nasdaq up 2.65%, S&P 500 up 1.73%, and Dow Jones up 0.89%. In commodities, base metals strengthened across the board: London aluminum rose 3.16%, nickel up 1.97%, and zinc up 1.50%. Agricultural products also advanced, with U.S. cotton up 5.85% and sugar up 4.20%.
Energy markets faced headwinds, as WTI crude fell 5.22% and Brent crude dropped 1.91%. Precious metals declined slightly, with gold down 0.70% and silver down 0.19%. The U.S. dollar index weakened 0.49% during the period.
