China's Market Watchdog Intensifies Crackdown on 'Cutthroat Competition' on July 17

According to People's Daily, China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) head Luo Wen called for deeper efforts to eliminate "cutthroat competition" practices, citing progress in key industries but warning of emerging new tactics and hidden operations that could trigger fresh risks. Luo, writing in the state newspaper on July 17, stated that while previous measures have improved market competition dynamics in major sectors, some industries continue problematic practices. The market regulator urged departments to strengthen enforcement using legal tools and comprehensive regulatory measures to foster healthy competition and transparent pricing.
