Bittrex Seeks to Void $24M SEC Settlement and Demand Full Refund This Week

According to Decrypt, Bittrex filed a motion this week to void its $24 million settlement with the SEC from 2023 and demand a full refund. Bittrex’s lawyers argued that the SEC admitted its legal theory classifying the crypto tokens as unregistered securities was flawed, and the Trump administration has since withdrawn nearly all similar cases. The exchange claims it deserves equal treatment. The SEC initiated a process in March 2026 to transfer the $24 million to the Treasury Department for customer compensation, prompting Bittrex’s lawyers to urgently request the court issue a return order before the funds are transferred. The SEC declined to comment.
