Auckland Airport Evacuated After Security Breach, Flights Halted and Passengers Rescreened

Gate News message, April 14 — Auckland Airport’s domestic terminal was evacuated on the morning of April 14 due to a security breach, bringing flights to a standstill. Passengers already cleared through security were told to leave and rescreen, while those who had landed were held on planes.

Auckland Airport confirmed the incident has been resolved, with Aviation Security requiring all passengers to undergo rescreening. Travelers on a 6:30 a.m. flight from Wellington waited 30 to 40 minutes on the plane before being allowed into the terminal, where large queues formed. More than a dozen domestic departures were delayed.

Separately, German airline Lufthansa and its subsidiaries announced renewed strikes from April 16, 12:01 a.m., to April 17, 11:59 p.m. local time. Flights departing from German airports will be impacted, though services to Middle Eastern destinations including Israel, UAE, and Saudi Arabia remain exempt.
