Day 52 · Dewdrops
At 6:30 AM, on the lawn of the company garden, every leaf is topped with a dewdrop.
Small, round, and glimmering. When there's wind, they sway gently back and forth, but don't fall, as if playing games with the leaves.
Squatting down to look, the dewdrops reflect the sky. A cloud happens to drift by, captured inside that tiny water droplet, then drifts away. Then another cloud, drifting away again.
Suddenly it occurs to me that dewdrops actually exist for a very short time.
Once the sun comes out, they're gone.
Some last only an hour or two, while the longest barely make it through the morning.
Yet they're not in a hurry.
When they should be there, they quietly stay, holding every cloud that passes by in their little hearts.
When it's time to leave, they don't struggle either, transforming into water vapor, drifting back to the sky, waiting for the next dawn.
We're always chasing "permanence."
Long-term holdings, long-term returns, long-term attention.
Wishing we could clutch everything in our hands, holding it for eternity.
But some beautiful things are like dewdrops.
A peaceful morning, a cup of coffee at just the right temperature, a moment without watching the charts.
When they're here, be fully present; when they're gone, don't chase them.
The sun slowly rose higher.
The dewdrops on the grass tips began disappearing one by one, silently, without a trace.
But tomorrow morning, they'll return again.
Brief, yet complete.
