Gate News message, April 20 — The U.S. Embassy in Iraq issued a statement on April 20 warning that Iran-aligned Iraqi militias continue to plan attacks targeting American citizens and U.S.-related facilities across multiple regions of Iraq, including the Kurdistan region. The embassy noted that some individuals connected to the Iraqi government remain providing political, economic, and operational support to these militia groups.

The embassy raised Iraq’s travel advisory to Level 4, the highest warning level, stating: “Do not travel to Iraq for any reason. If you are in Iraq, leave immediately.” The embassy cautioned that missile, drone, and rocket attacks remain a risk throughout the country. American citizens planning to travel to Iraq are urged to leave as soon as possible.

The Iraqi airspace has been reopened and some commercial flights have resumed operations. The U.S. Embassy and consulates in Iraq continue normal operations while processing American citizens’ departures.
