Roblox Agrees to Pay Nevada $12M+ for Child Safety Measures, Pledges $10M to Youth Programs

GateNews

Gate News message, April 17 — Roblox has agreed to pay the state of Nevada over $12 million as part of a comprehensive child safety settlement, according to reports on April 16. The company will allocate $10 million over three years to support Nevada’s youth programs, with an additional $2.5 million directed toward online safety campaigns and law enforcement liaison operations.

The agreement includes significant platform-wide safety enhancements. Roblox will strengthen age verification procedures for all users, implement account activity monitoring, and restrict notifications to minors during late-night hours. The company will also limit chat functions for users under 16, removing encryption from minor chats. Additionally, Roblox is introducing age-based account tiers—Roblox Kids for ages 5-8 and Roblox Select for ages 9-15—launching in June. All safety features are set to roll out across the United States by early June.

Parental controls will be expanded, allowing guardians to block specific games, manage direct chat settings for users under 15, and approve game access beyond default permissions. Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford stated the agreement will create a safer online environment for children and serve as a benchmark for how interactive platforms should address youth safety. Roblox Chief Safety Officer Matt Copeman said the settlement represents an extension of the company’s ongoing digital safety initiatives.
