Gate News message, April 16 — Lebanese President Michel Aoun spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on April 16, expressing gratitude for American efforts to promote a ceasefire and the support provided by the United States, according to a statement from the Lebanese presidential office.

Rubio affirmed that the U.S. will continue advancing ceasefire efforts as a foundation for achieving peace, security, and stability in Lebanon, and expressed support for Aoun’s position. During the call, Aoun stated he would not engage in direct talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to Lebanese National Broadcasting Company reports.

The statement comes as U.S. President Trump claimed on social media on April 15 that Lebanese and Israeli leaders would hold talks, creating a point of tension with Aoun’s stated position.
