Boston Dynamics Integrates Google's Gemini AI into Spot Robot, Enhancing Autonomous Capabilities

Gate News message, April 15 — Boston Dynamics released demonstration videos on April 14 showcasing its quadruped robot Spot equipped with Google’s Gemini AI, significantly enhancing the robot’s autonomous task execution and industrial responsiveness.

In the demonstration, Spot used its onboard cameras and Gemini to independently recognize a task list written on a whiteboard and sequentially performed tasks including organizing shoes, disposing of empty cans, collecting laundry, and walking a dog. The robot also detected floor leaks, located gauges to check temperatures, and provided insights by directly interpreting on-site data.

The enhanced capabilities result from integrating Boston Dynamics’ Orbit software platform’s AI Vision Inspection and Learning (AIVI-Learning) with Google’s Gemini Robotics ER 1.6. The update enables Spot to analyze sensor-collected environmental data, recognize complex settings, understand task context, and perform industrial inspections with improved accuracy including digital screen readings and pallet counting. The system supports seamless AI model updates without downtime and allows users to verify AI reasoning processes through prompts.

Hyundai Motor Group, which owns Boston Dynamics, announced strategic collaboration with Google DeepMind at CES in January to accelerate future humanoid technology development by integrating advanced robotics and AI technologies.
