Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: Will proactively plan future industries with greater efforts

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology convened a symposium with future-industry enterprises on the 21st, calling for accurately grasping the development situation of future industries, seizing the key window of the “15th Five-Year Plan,” and making greater efforts to proactively plan and position future industries in advance to capture the commanding heights of future development. The head of the Ministry said at the meeting that China’s future-industry development is currently showing a good momentum of continued expansion of industry scale, multiple breakthroughs in technological innovation, gradually taking shape of coordinated layout, and ongoing expansion of application innovation. At the same time, it is also necessary to recognize that a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation is accelerating, and there are still some weaknesses and shortcomings in areas such as original innovation capacity, key core technologies, the number of top-tier talents, and safeguards provided by institutional mechanisms. The official said that efforts should be based on China’s industrial foundation and resource endowments, give full play to comparative advantages, and coordinate all work in a systematic way; strengthen top-level planning guidance, improve technological foresight mechanisms, and advance the construction of future-industry pilot zones in an orderly manner; and systematically plan breakthroughs in original and leading technologies while strengthening scenario-led efforts. In addition, enterprises should be fully leveraged as the main actors, and differentiated support policies should be improved; policy effectiveness should be continuously enhanced in areas such as innovation and development in future industries, financial support, and talent cultivation; overall development and security should be coordinated, and a prudent approach should be taken to exploring regulatory methods suited to the characteristics of future industries, ensuring that both “things can move freely” and “they can be well regulated.” It is reported that at the meeting, leaders of 8 enterprises from areas including biomanufacturing, quantum technology, display materials, hydrogen energy, and commercial aerospace exchanged views and delivered speeches, introducing their companies’ production and business operations and industry development conditions, and offering suggestions on enhancing future-industry technological innovation, scenario exploration, and capabilities for commercial practice.
