Vietnam Issues Crypto Trading Fines of $1,140-$1,900 on July 16, Effective September 1

According to Decree No. 284/2026/NĐ-CP issued on July 16, Vietnam has introduced fines for trading crypto outside government-licensed platforms, ranging from VND 30 million to VND 50 million (roughly $1,140 to $1,900) for individuals and double for organizations. These penalties match the country's fines for driving under the influence.

The regulations also impose steeper fines for trading crypto designated exclusively for foreign investors (VND 70 million to VND 100 million, or $2,650 to $3,800) and unlicensed service providers (VND 180 million to VND 200 million, or $6,800 to $7,600). The decree takes effect September 1, implementing Vietnam's plan to restrict access to overseas platforms like Binance and OKX while establishing a regulated domestic market.
