U.S. Military Destroys Iranian Surveillance Tower at Chabahar Port on July 17

According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the U.S. military destroyed a surveillance tower at Chabahar port on Iran's Oman coast on July 17 (local time). The tower was part of a maritime monitoring network used by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) for decades to track and target commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM stated that destroying the facility directly degrades the IRGC's ability to coordinate attacks on civilian mariners and protects freedom of navigation for all vessels except those attempting to breach U.S. maritime restrictions.
