U.S. Lawmakers Clash Over War Powers Resolution 60-Day Deadline on Iran Military Action

GateNews

According to CNN, U.S. lawmakers disagreed on May 1 over whether the 60-day War Powers Resolution deadline had been reached in the Iran conflict. Some members argued the clock started on March 2, when President Trump notified Congress of hostile military operations. However, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth contended that the ongoing ceasefire meant the countdown had paused. Senator Adam Schiff countered that a ceasefire does not stop the clock and asserted the military action was unlawful from the outset. Meanwhile, some Republican senators, including Lisa Murkowski, threatened to introduce an Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) measure if the White House failed to present a credible plan by the following week.
