UK Sentences Two Scattered Spider Hackers to 5.5 Years for $115M Crypto Ransom Scheme

According to the UK National Crime Agency, two hackers linked to the Scattered Spider cybercrime group were sentenced to five years and six months on Thursday at Woolwich Crown Court. The pair pleaded guilty on June 22 and were convicted in connection with a $115 million cryptocurrency ransom scheme targeting at least 47 US companies. US prosecutors linked Scattered Spider to high-profile ransomware attacks, including the September 2024 breach of London's public transport network, which resulted in approximately £29 million ($38.9 million) in losses and recovery costs.
