Trump Administration Considers Creating Independent AI Regulator Modeled After FINRA

According to Bloomberg, the Trump administration is considering establishing an independent artificial intelligence regulatory body to review AI model safety standards. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent helped develop the proposal, which would create a separate agency reporting to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with a structure similar to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). The plan is currently under review by White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
