STA Urges SEC to Prioritize Issuer-Sponsored Tokenized Securities on July 14

According to CoinDesk, the Securities Transfer Association (STA) urged the SEC on July 14 to prioritize issuer-sponsored tokenized securities over third-party platforms in future regulatory frameworks. In its comment letter, STA argued that blockchain-based stock tokens should be formally authorized by listed companies and recorded in official shareholder registries, granting investors the same legal rights as traditional stocks. Third-party tokens expose investors to platform credit, custody, and operational risks while weakening shareholder-issuer relationships. The global tokenized securities market is projected to reach $5.5 trillion by 2030, with tokenized stocks accounting for $2.6 trillion, according to Citi.
