Nvidia Cuts Vera Rubin NVL72 CPU Memory by Half to 96GB Amid LPDDR5X Price Surge

According to Kuaifaiji (China), Nvidia has reduced CPU-side memory in its Vera Rubin NVL72 rack system from 192GB to 96GB, with total CPU configuration cut from 54-55TB to 28TB, driven by soaring LPDDR5X and HBM4 chip prices. Bernstein estimates the per-rack cost has risen from $7.8 million to $9.1 million, with memory now accounting for approximately 29% of bill of materials. Cutting CPU memory to 96GB per module reduces LPDDR5X costs from $1.2 million to $586,000 per system, bringing memory costs within acceptable margins.
