New York Imposes First-in-Nation One-Year Data Center Moratorium on July 14

According to Reuters, on Tuesday Governor Kathy Hochul announced a one-year moratorium on all new data center construction in New York, making the state the first to impose such a ban. The statewide moratorium applies to data centers using 50 megawatts or more. During the ban period, state officials will develop standards for responsible data center development and assess environmental impacts of construction and operations in the state.
