MicroStrategy Skips Four Straight Weekly Bitcoin Purchases, Longest Pause in Two Years Before July 30 Earnings

BTC-0.09%
According to SEC filings, MicroStrategy has paused its Bitcoin purchases for four consecutive weeks through July 27, its longest buying pause in two years, ahead of its second-quarter earnings release on July 30. The company's last BTC purchase covered the week ending June 21, after which it sold 3,588 Bitcoin in two tranches between June 29 and July 5 for approximately $216 million to fund preferred stock dividends. MicroStrategy's pause stems from its stock's mNAV ratio—the premium of its share price over Bitcoin holdings—dropping to roughly 0.99 in late June, the first time it touched sub-parity. The metric recovered to about 1.03 by late July, but the company's Bitcoin holdings remain underwater against their purchase price, with management setting the breakeven closer to 1.22.
