According to CNBC, on July 17, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella criticized Anthropic's restrictions on its Fable model in an internal meeting with Copilot engineers, calling the approach "excessively editorially controlled" and lacking justification.
Nadella stated that enterprises should be able to develop customized models at lower costs and retain control of internal data, rather than having a few companies monopolize AI token resources. "You can't have just two global companies owning token capital with everyone else forced to rent," he said. Microsoft previously invested $5 billion in Anthropic and uses its models in select Copilot products.
