Iraq Routes Fuel Through Syria via Truck Convoy, Syria Now Represents Over One-Quarter of Middle East Exports

Recently, Iraq has been transporting fuel oil via large truck convoys through Syria to Mediterranean ports, diverting exports away from the Strait of Hormuz. In just a few months, Syria's fuel exports have surged from zero to account for over one-quarter of total Middle East exports. The journey by truck to Syrian Mediterranean ports takes approximately four days. Iraq is also routing fuel-laden trucks through Jordan as an alternative route. The shift follows disruptions to Iraq's oil revenues linked to Strait of Hormuz concerns.
