Iran Rejects Oman's Fifty-Fifty Management Proposal for Hormuz Strait

According to Jin10, an Iranian senior official stated on July 29 that Tehran has rejected Oman's proposed fifty-fifty joint management arrangement for the Hormuz Strait, deeming it unviable. Iran insists that only Tehran and Oman can determine arrangements based on their respective maritime zones, and refuses foreign involvement in Strait management. Tehran maintains that all shipping lanes passing through or entering the Hormuz Strait must remain under Iranian control. The official noted that the fifty-fifty arrangement contradicts Iran's interests, though Oman is regarded as a valued neighbor. Iran also accused the U.S. and Saudi Arabia of pressuring Oman to pursue an impractical plan.
