Hong Kong SFC Censures Yadabird Securities, Imposes 2.8 Million HKD Fine for Wash Trading Control Failures

According to the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), Yadabird Securities International (Hong Kong) Limited was censured and fined 2.8 million HKD on July 27 for failing to establish adequate internal controls to detect wash trading among its customers.

The SFC's investigation found that between November 1, 2023 and September 13, 2025, due to control gaps at Yadabird, 615 customer accounts generated 1,021 instances of wash trading involving 736 stocks and warrants. Before March 2024, the firm relied solely on post-trade monitoring and manual review. Despite introducing pre-trade interception measures in March 2024, the system remained insufficient as it relied on manual intervention rather than automation, and multiple wash trades by the same account on a single day were consolidated into one event, allowing repeated violations within a day to go undetected.
