According to CNBC, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis called on Tuesday for the U.S. to lead a federally overseen AI standards body to assess national security risks including cybersecurity and biological threats. Hassabis proposed a public-private partnership modeled on regulatory frameworks like FINRA, with a board including independent technical experts and open-source representatives. Frontier labs would initially voluntarily submit AI models for review up to 30 days before release, with the requirement becoming mandatory for U.S. market deployment after proving effectiveness.
