According to Politico, on July 26, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states are struggling to reach consensus on Iran policy amid ongoing US-Iran tensions, despite public efforts to appear united. While the UAE and Saudi Arabia have showcased warming relations through joint appearances, and GCC members held coordinated meetings at the U.S. State Department and Congress, fundamental disagreements persist. Arab diplomats and former U.S. officials indicate that member states prioritize different economic and strategic interests, including access to alternative shipping routes, varying infrastructure ties to Iran, and differing exposure to economic losses from regional conflict. These competing interests prevent substantive progress on ensuring the Strait of Hormuz remains open, leaving the coalition divided despite unified public messaging.
