ETH drops 1.31% in 1 hour: CPI good news is exhausted, and a short-term pullback is triggered by a 4-hour RSI overbought signal.

From 08:00 to 09:00 UTC on July 16, 2026, ETH saw a sharp drop of 1.31% within 1 hour. Its price fell from 1912.77 USDT to 1884.19 USDT, with an Ampl of 1.50%. Prior to this, over the previous 24 hours, ETH had cumulatively risen by about 2.22%, peaking at 1946 USDT. This pullback can be seen as short-term profit-taking following CPI-positive stimulus.

The main driver behind this move was the macro sentiment improvement caused by CPI coming in below expectations. Cooling inflation reduced the Fed rate-hike expectations, risk assets broadly rebounded, and ETH—being a high-Beta asset—responded quickly. On Binance, within the past hour, there was more than $1.2 billion worth of ETH Taker Buy Volume, driving the price rebound from the 1871 USDT area to 1946 USDT.

Meanwhile, institutional-level buying provided structural support. BitMine Immersion Technologies increased its holdings by 27,801 ETH over the past week, bringing its total holdings to 5.77 million tokens, or 4.8% of circulation—leaving about 240,000 ETH short of its 5% target. The valuation of this institutional position is about $10.5 billion, and continued accumulation reduces market circulating supply. However, the 4-hour RSI has already entered the overbought zone. ADX=37.8 confirms the short-term trend is strong, but pullback demand has built up. At the same time, the Order Book shows that around 1913 USDT there are 14.6 units of large sell orders, dominating the top five sell orders. The buy/sell depth ratio of 0.95 indicates an evenly matched standoff, slightly favoring the bearish side.

In the short term, watch the support performance at 1871 USDT (24h low) and 1820 USDT (BitMine reference cost zone). Resistance to monitor is 1946 USDT and the 2000 psychological level. Since the daily ADX is only 19.4, the medium-term trend has not yet been established. If Filled Amounts cannot continue to expand, the upside room for the rebound may be limited.
