According to a July 23 Coinbase blog post, the exchange is building PQ-CoreKMS, a post-quantum version of its key management system protecting approximately 99.9% of custodial assets. The system will support quantum-resistant signature algorithms as blockchain networks adopt post-quantum cryptography. Coinbase is also a founding member of the Bitcoin Security Consortium, which launched a $15 million industry initiative to support open-source developers researching Bitcoin's long-term security. The exchange will co-host a working session at Stanford in August with Bitcoin Core developers, researchers, and cryptographers to examine migration strategies for moving Bitcoin to quantum-resistant security.
