According to Agência Brasil, Brazil's São Paulo state prosecution filed a civil lawsuit on July 25 against World developer Tools for Humanity and Amazon AWS Serviços Brasil for illegally collecting iris data from over 400,000 people. The data collection targeted economically vulnerable populations in São Paulo with financial incentives ranging from 300 to 700 Brazilian reais. The prosecution is seeking the suspension of iris data collection in exchange for payment or benefits, permanent deletion of collected information, and compensation of at least 240 million reais (approximately $47.2 million) for collective moral damages.
