Just realized a lot of people are struggling with updating their SASSA details, especially when it comes to changing their payment method. Been seeing questions about this in various groups, so thought I'd share what I've learned.

So here's the thing - if you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child grant), you can't just do it online. You actually have to go to your nearest SASSA office in person. Yeah, I know, not ideal. But that's how they handle it. You'll need to fill out a Payment Method Change Form, bring your valid ID and proof of your new bank account - like a bank statement from the last 3 months or a letter from your bank confirming it's active and in your name. They won't pay into joint accounts or anything like that, so make sure it's only in your name.

The whole process can take up to 21 working days once they send it to the bank for verification. And heads up - if you want the change to kick in next month, you need to submit before the 15th. Miss that deadline and you're waiting another cycle.

Now, if you're on the SRD R370 grant, it's actually way smoother. Everything's online through the official SASSA SRD portal. You input your ID number, they send you a secure link via SMS, and you can update your banking details and change your payment method right there. Still takes a few days to weeks for the bank to verify, but at least you're not sitting in an office queue.

Phone number changes work similarly - for SRD it's all on the portal with an OTP verification, for permanent grants you'd need to call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or visit in person. Just be careful with those unofficial websites floating around trying to scam people. Stick to the official SASSA links only.
