Just found out a lot of people are struggling to change bank details for their SASSA grants, especially when the payment methods keep failing. Honestly, the process depends on which grant you're getting because it's pretty different between the permanent grants and the SRD R350 thing.

If you're on a permanent grant like the old age or disability one, you basically have to physically go to your nearest SASSA office. No way around it online. Bring your ID (original and copy), and proof of your new bank account - they want either a bank statement from the last three months or an official letter from your bank saying the account is active and in your name. They'll give you a Payment Method Change Form to fill out, and the whole process to change bank details takes up to 21 working days after they send it to your bank. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect next month, otherwise you're waiting another cycle.

But if you're on the SRD grant, it's actually way easier because everything is online. Just go to the official SASSA SRD portal, enter your ID number, and they'll send you a secure link via SMS. Follow the link, input your new bank account info, and you're done. Takes a few days to weeks for verification though. Important thing - the account has to be in your name, not some joint account or someone else's.

For updating your phone number on SRD, same deal - use the contact details page on their portal, enter your ID and Application ID, put in your new number, and they'll send an OTP to verify. If the online thing isn't working, just call the SASSA helpline at 0800 60 10 or email them. Definitely stick to the official channels though because there are fake websites out there trying to scam people when they're trying to change bank details or update their contact info.
