Just realized a lot of people still don't know how to properly update their banking details with SASSA, especially if they're on the permanent grants. Went through this recently and it's actually more complicated than it seems. For the old age, disability, and child grants, you can't just do it online—you have to go in person to your nearest SASSA office. They'll give you a form, you submit your ID and bank statement (has to be less than 3 months old), and then they send it to the bank for verification which takes like 21 days. The trick is submitting before the 15th of the month if you want the change to kick in the next payment cycle. For the SRD R370 grant though, it's totally different—everything's online through their portal, which is actually way easier. You just enter your ID, they send you an SMS link, and you update your details from there. But here's the thing: your new bank account has to be in your name alone. No joint accounts, no third-party stuff. SASSA won't pay into anything else. Also heads up, if you're changing your phone number, make sure it's registered in your name (RICA-compliant) if you're using the cash send option. Honestly, if the online process gives you trouble, just call the helpline at 0800 60 10 or visit an office. Sometimes dealing with it directly is faster than wrestling with the portal. Anyone else had issues getting their banking details updated?
