just realized X rolled out this 'about this account' thing on profiles and honestly it's kind of wild. you can now see when someone joined, their location, how many times they changed their username, all that stuff. apparently it's to help spot bots since AI is getting scary good at faking real accounts these days.

the whole idea is you can check if someone claiming to be from one place actually has their account set up there, or if something seems off. like if someone says they're in california but their account details show they're somewhere else, red flag right? nikita bier (x's product guy) basically said they'd roll this out after users kept asking elon to make location mandatory.

what's interesting is you can choose to show just your country or your broader region—though it defaults to showing your country. and apparently if you try to use a VPN to hide where you actually are, there's gonna be a warning about that too. haven't seen that part live yet but the code suggests it's coming.

instagram had something similar for a while so it's not totally new, but for x it feels like a bigger deal given all the bot/misinformation problems. curious if this actually helps or if people just ignore it. you checking your own about this account details yet?
