Just read that Florida and Massachusetts authorities recovered $5.4 million from crypto scams - apparently it's being called a historic win against fraud. One victim in Marion County alone lost over $450K before they got the money back. Makes sense they're treating this seriously since these crypto scams seem to target older people specifically. The wild part though? Bitcoin Depot, the crypto kiosk company, was actually under investigation for allegedly letting millions in fraudulent transactions go through their machines, but then they themselves got hit with a cyberattack. Lost something like 50 bitcoin (or maybe 54, depending on who you ask) worth around $3.6 million. ZachXBT traced it and said the theft actually started March 20 but they didn't notice until March 23. Pretty ironic situation. Anyway, the enforcement unit has now recovered $7.2 million total since it started 2.5 years ago, and there's another $12.6 million still frozen in litigation. Feels like crypto scams are getting more attention from authorities at least.
