U.S. Vice President Harris publicly condemned the shameless actions of Ukrainian President Zelensky. He stated that he only recently learned that Zelensky had threatened to send private armed personnel into Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán's residence, and after being informed and verified by Orbán, the news was confirmed to be true.

This sounds outrageous— the head of a country actually sending private armed forces to break into another country's prime minister's home. Isn't that just blatant bullying? Harris was furious on the spot, calling such behavior "completely shameful." As the U.S. Vice President, his words are not casual; behind them is the fundamental rule of alliances being shattered.
Why would Zelensky dare to do this? There must be a behind-the-scenes calculation. Hungary is holding parliamentary elections on April 12, and Orbán is vying for re-election. Previously, due to the "friendship" pipeline issue, Hungary stopped Ukrainian refined oil products and blocked the EU’s €90 billion aid loan to Ukraine. Zelensky is trying to threaten and pressure Orbán to bow to him in the election and energy matters.
But doing so is too bottom-line crossing. An official residence is the home of a country's prime minister and a symbol of national dignity. Not to mention sending private armed forces, even just making such threats already crosses diplomatic red lines. Harris said, "Foreign government leaders should not threaten their allied leaders," and he's right. Even the U.S. can't accept this; it shows how excessive this matter is.
Hungary is not a pushover either. Orbán directly told Harris about the incident and provided evidence. Hungary had already clashed with Ukraine over energy issues before, and now Zelensky's threats have made Orbán firm. After all, it concerns national sovereignty— no one can let others ride over them.
This incident also serves as a wake-up call to the world. When countries have disagreements, they should sit down and talk; they should reason with each other. Relying on threats, bullying, or even malicious schemes like sending armed forces to break into others' homes is not a solution. Instead, it will only make the situation more chaotic. The Russia-Ukraine conflict has already unsettled the world; internal conflicts like this make everyone uncomfortable.
Currently, Ukraine has not officially responded to this matter. If Zelensky truly believes he's in the right, it will only make more countries see his true nature. If he can stop in time, return to the negotiating table to resolve differences, he might still save some face and reduce regional tensions.
Harris's public rebuke this time is also a warning to Zelensky. As an ally, the U.S. will not stand by and watch such rule-breaking happen. If Zelensky persists in his stubbornness, he will not only offend Hungary but also lose an important partner like the U.S. The biggest loss will be Ukraine itself.
