#快讯 F2Pool co-founder Wang Chun: Bitcoin protocol upgrades should not be marred by “political compromises”
On April 4, F2Pool co-founder Wang Chun posted on the X platform, saying that Bitcoin protocol upgrades should not involve practices like U.S. politicians’ use of “bundled bills” to force through “some provisions that must pass but are unpopular.” This is also an important reason for his opposition to BIP-110 and BIP-54.
In response to whether he encountered problems when using any fix procedures with BIP-54, Wang Chun added that the “timewarp” attack has been around for a long time and provides miners with no significant advantage, because it is not possible to predict who the miner of the next block will be. Its only practical use is to disrupt certain altcoins. Since it provides almost no real benefit to Bitcoin miners, there is no urgent need to modify it. In addition, block validation efficiency has been significantly improved due to libsecp256k1 and hardware upgrades, so there is no need for protocol-layer adjustments. As for “forged confirmed transactions,” it fundamentally depends on cracking double SHA256 collision—if it works, it would mean that Bitcoin core security has been compromised.
Wang Chun further said that none of the issues above is sufficient to drive protocol changes; currently, only the “duplicate transactions” problem has some repair value, and it may be one of the few changes worth implementing.
