In the past wave of the lobster craze, I always felt a sense of dissonance and detachment, as if something was missing. I even lost some of my desire to tweet about it.
This morning, I realized that the source of this feeling is that everyone online is starting to FOMO and jump into the hype, but very few people are actually turning their knowledge into real money.
After years in the crypto space, I’ve become accustomed to the quick transformation from “knowledge -> profit,” where learning a new skill or piece of knowledge can quickly translate into earnings.
For example, in DeFi, I was ahead of others in understanding the logic and gameplay, and I freeloaded $YFI worth over a dozen BTC, along with tens of thousands of $Cake and countless other mines.
For example, in Meme, I was ahead of others in understanding Agents, Ai16z, and the wave of stockings, and many of my friends and I made big money.
I won’t even mention BTC; other opportunities that come to mind include inscriptions, GameFi, and more — all big chances for ordinary people to turn their lives around.
Based on past experience, with such a big buzz around the lobster, I should have seen some small partners earning M-level profits nearby. I asked around, but few actually made money.
Despite the hype, many people have been excited for days, messing around for days, burning through a lot of tokens. Besides selling courses, they still haven’t found a reliable, scalable way to monetize (the local push circle was quick to jump on the concept and start making money).
The threshold for ordinary people to make money in the AI space is much higher than in crypto, and opportunities are much fewer — at least that’s how it feels right now.
